Red thread lawn disease is fungal and causes yellow patches on your lawn and in your grass.
A little red hair will grow from the tips of the grass blades.
This is the fungus using the leaf as its host, this in effect kills the host leaf, turning it yellow.
Its sister disease is called pink patch, it looks like candy floss.
Red thread is not going to cause permanent damage, the leaf will die and turn yellow but the plant should still be healthy and grow new leaf material.
It can be treated with fertiliser.
It affects the grass leaf and looks like dry patch.
The grass will have brown patches that look dry.
Watering may not help.
A high thatch level in the lawn will not help.
You should scarify to reduce the thatch level.
The soil may become hydrophobic.
